Had to wiki how water softeners work :-(
Forgotten so much chemistry :-(

I understand, Stu. Myself? I thought my mother was nuts when she told me she couldn't drink our softened water; but, to please her, I had a faucet added to the water line before it went into the water softener. (That was at a different house. Mother died six years before we built this house.) Obviously, I was wrong about how the ion exchange occurred. It's amazing how many things I've learned since Mom died - that she had tried to tell me. (You can always tell an engineer...but...you can't tell her much.)
