Why put the base in the middle of the country? Why not on the border(s) where any action is likely to be?

Man - seeing it lit from below is sooooo cool! The landing with night vision was kind of cool too.

Stu - why keep all your eggs in one basket? Also, refueling is more likely needed in the middle of the country for aircraft that are being shifted (transporting people/goods etc) from one coast/boarder to another. Terrain and other considerations are there either (but as a former Kansan, I am sworn to secrecy on those aspects)
