In late May, I posted about Progress in woods cleanup. Yesterday, I had the same crew come in - mostly to remove evergreens nearer our house (and even nearer to our neighbors' houses) that had overgrown their spots and had, with the increasing frequency of wildfires, posed too much fire hazard. (The fire hazard issue had also been part of my reason for starting a bit of cleanup in our woods.) In addition, the team removed a small brush pile that I had accumulated since their work in May - AND - a rather large brush pile that I had directed not be removed in May because Carolina wrens were nesting in it. (It is against Federal law to un-house nesting migratory birds - even had I not had a personal objection to such un-housing.)
Bogie has been setting such a good example for me that she should be happy to see that I am learning to take some "before" photos for comparison to "after" photos. Both, follow.
Note that, the 3 globular junipers (photos above) were removed, not as fire hazards, but as back-breaking labor for yours truly. I've gotten old enough that wielding hedge trimmers is no longer a trivial task. I'll get to partake of that task amply in keeping the foundation planting bushes under some sort of control
Apologies for my having done such a lousy job of matching POV in the above photo.
8/21/2017 10:58am Addition/Change:
I have replaced the bottom photo, above, with a more recent shot. The more recent photo not only provides a better match to the POV of the "before" photo but shows the results of neighbor Jason's having gotten out, yesterday, to cut out the chest-high weeds that had been growing between the greenery we had removed and his house.
Now, back to the last of the original posting, below.
The following photos are for Bogie - some of the masonry products that I had wished I could pass to her. Not pictured are the concrete blocks. Also, in the above photo, those concrete blocks and pavers will join their kin as soon as I feel up to it.
Quite the difference! In many places looks "cleaner". Will you be replacing the Junipers with other shrubbery?
Looks like you have plenty of work to do with those pavers!

Bogie--I miss the green, but it does look much cleaner without all of the junipers. No, I do not intend to replace with shrubbery - at least nothing that will require maintenance. Perhaps add some more "blue chip" spreading junipers - like the ones that are next to the street in the 4th photo. They took forever to look like anything; but, they haven't required any maintenance. Perhaps, up across from the garage doors, we'll put some roses in for your dad. You know that he loves roses and I intend to take the ones in back out - replace the roses and irises with grass.
As to pavers: anyone who hauls 'em off can have 'em. I thought that Jason wanted them; but, he says "no". Most of the masonry stuff by the garage is bricks of various types that were left over from the house - all the same color. Those will go back under the new porch. The rest, not sure where they'll be used.
