I told Bogie that I would post another photo of the messy, messy nest in the miniature swing on our front porch. Here it is, below. 1) Notice that Mama Finch is on the nest with her tail sticking out to the left (in front of the cords by which the swing hangs). 2) Yeah, I know the photo is lousy; but, it is the best I can do without disturbing Mama F. To get a better photo, I must get the double pane of glass in the lune above the front door out of the way. Then, since I would be on the front porch and the swing is 15 feet above me, I must use an extension step ladder. This would put me face-to-face (or face-to-tail as the case may be) with Mama F.
At any rate, I'm hoping that you can imagine that you are seeing a neat little nest atop a roughly-constructed platform of the mulch. It might help your imagination to compare this photo with the one of the semi-leucistic female finch (probably the mother of the current Mama Finch) on the nest. (Bogie: This shows that something was up with the gene pool!)
All of the local botanical plants have been at least three or four weeks early in developing this year. And...because we had about 150% of our normal amount of rain last year, blooming has been abundant. Below are photos of the first of our irises to bloom - a dwarf variety.
Here (below) is a close-up of that lower, right-hand blossom.
Finally, I must show off my Lisa socks. I've worn such socks for several years - when I can find them on merchants' shelves. I'm betting Bogie can tell you what's special about my Lisa socks.
That nest has a lot of cushion!
We had a warm March so we thought we would be blooming early. But then everything went on hold because April has been cold and gloomy. My forsythia just started blooming a couple of days ago and a couple of daffodils bloomed (on 40*, rainy days so I missed the actual blooms - just see remnants today). My way of saying "thanks for sharing pics of gorgeous blooms!"
You got me on the Lisa socks. I thought they said USA and don't remember any back story that you may be referring to. I'm telling you, you sucked out all my memory as a kid by always telling me to remind you of stuff :)

Bogie--You got it! It took me at least a couple of years to figure out that my Lisa socks were actually advertising that they had been made in the USA. Well done!

Update: The house finches and the bluebirds nesting in our yard have been feeding hatchlings for the past five or six days.
