She was a pretty amazing woman I recall thinking when I first learned years ago that she was more than the pretty face movie star I knew of as a young girl.

Yes Joared, she held the first patent on spread spectrum and frequency hopping radio technology, granted 1942. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hedy_Lamarr#Inventor .Bright lass:)

She was really something, all right.

fab! I missed it, too. Many thanks for posting it. And yes, Joared and Stu, she was much more than a pretty face, but I didn't know that back in the day....

Back in the day, women had a struggle to be taken seriously. It was a double whammy, being a woman and being beautiful, as was Ms Lamarr. I'm convinced that it was her movie contracts that kept Ms Lamarr's intellectual endeavors under wraps from the public. You'll note that, even in this up-to-date Google Doodle, Ms Lamarr is lauded for her intellectual accomplishments but illustrated as being young and beautiful.

BTW: Ms Lamarr was only 46 days younger than my slightly less-well-known mother! *tongue-in-cheek*
