Having firmly ensconced myself in bed at about 9:30, last night, I awoke at 11:44 PM, threw on a robe, went to the kitchen, poured a couple of glasses of cold duck (sparkling wine), then proceeded to awaken Hunky Husband. We sat in the living room quietly conversing, watching the weather channel (muted), and listening to the fireworks set off by the neighbors. At 12:12 AM, we rinsed out our wine glasses and returned to slumberland. The excitement was just too much. So, too, was it on New Year's Eve 47 years ago.
In Kansas City MO, in a hotel suite, HH and I (who were afianced at the time), my Elder Brother and his wife (Expert Seamstress), and HH’s two sisters played cards (bridge?) and drank a little champagne while our parents gathered at my parents’s home to play pinochle (I don’t recall where younger brother was—probably on a date with his future wife.) It was a scary night for me—HH and I were to be married the next day, January 1, 1958. I drank a little more than I should have and exhibited all of the classic symptoms of “what in the heck am I doing” terror. Fortunately, the symptoms were short-lived and we all had a grand time the next day. Also fortunately, we had decided to be married in my parents’s home, with only our immediate families in attendance. That was a lo-o-ong time ago; but, we remember the evening and the day fondly.
Happy anniversary, Hunky Husband! You are the love of my life.
Happy Anniversary to both of you!
Congratulations on your new blog!

To the World: Buffy thinks that with my own blog, perhaps the length of my comments to her (and other) blogs will be shorter. Heh, heh. Just wait, Buffy.
To Dudette: Thank you #1 Daughter Unit

OK, OK, Bogie. I had to read it twice. Slowing down in my dotage. Thank you!

...happy anniversary :^)...
...bit worried though - does this mean that the future holds a move away from champagne towards cold duck in the future for celebrations :^)...no-one told me that was going to happen as the years roll on :^)...
(obviously I mean *marriage years* as I know that you got married at the age of -22 and are much younger than me :^) )

Thank you, Billy. We were married in 1988. (Of course, that was the second time; but, if I fail to mention that may I pretend to be 22+(2005-1988)=39?) I bore Dudette and Bogie at very young ages!
I just like cold duck. Some champagnes are OK, but cold duck is usually more suited to my taste buds.

...ah-ha...this *cold duck* is it actually a red wine brewed by paul masson and called *very cold duck* because it now appears that I am married to woman who has been round the paul masson vineyard and would prefer to celebrate *our* anniversary with a wine she drank 25 years ago...which means that she was drinking illegally in the usofa 'cos she was only 20 :^)...

News Flash to Billy: Many of us drank before coming of age. Hunky Husband can tell you that I did MOST of my drinking before I was of age (not that I was a sot!) I don't recommend underage drinking, but that's what I did (she says, ruefully). Once I was old enough to drink legally, I didn't have the urge. Go figure. Part of it might be that I got married and had to keep a clear head--LOL! (Suddenly my grades in school improved, too. Hunky Husband has been a very good influence on my life!)
