Hunky Husband and I just returned from a visit with Elder Brother and his wife, Wondrous Seamstress, in Loveland. What a grand time in beautiful Colorado! As they had had about eight inches of snow a few days before our arrival, and since the snow plows evidently don’t know their address, the streets in EB’s and WS’s neighborhood were treacherous; however, after about 15 minutes of waving my arms about to keep my balance, I was able to walk to my “usual” walking path—down a county road. It was a little muddy, and a little slick in places (where the trees shaded it); but, it was wonderful to be able to walk in the crisp air and warm sunshine while looking at the ponds in the foreground and the front range of mountains in the background (the back range peeks through, of course.) It was a close call a few times, but I managed to take my walk on most days that we were there—usually, just before lunch.
We were invited to spend an evening with some of EB’s and WS’s young friends, who are the elder son (and family) of EB’s and WS’s oldest, dearest friends. The young family had entertained EB, WS, and me while I was in Loveland last July. The food was tasty (lasagne, salad of greens, green beans, corn casserole, hot-out-of-the-oven bread, and butter) and plentiful. We six adults then spent a couple of hours (actually, they have 18- and 13-year-old sons who had better things to pursue and their 16-year-old daughter had to work at the Rocky Mountain Candy Factory that evening) playing a wicked game of Mexican Train. If you’ve never played the game, think of playing something like Ono--with dominos. Then it was dessert time—pumpkin cake and baklava, each just freshly cooled. I gained two pounds just having dessert!
Other than the evening with friends and an evening out in one of the better restaurants in Loveland (what a delicious petit filet they served me!), we spent a lot of time chatting or “doing our own thing”. I had taken some embroidery work with me and got a fair amount done. We also watched a tape of There’s No Business Like Show Business. I had never seen the show and was surprised to learn that, in addition to Ethel Merman, Dan O’Conner, Mitzi Gaynor, and Dan Dailey, the show featured a young Marilyn Monroe. Hunky Husband professed not to know who MM was (that is, he didn’t recognize her), which I had a hard time believing. The movie was released in 1954—the same year that HH was graduated from high school. I know—none of you ever heard of the show or the lead actors!! Well, I never heard of…fill in the blank with any current movie or actor….
Crazy Kid (our granddaughter) did a fine job of taking care of the cats while we were gone. The cats really appreciate being able to stay at home when we travel, now. They never liked being boarded out. CK came by to drop off the house key and garage door opener (while picking up a check, of course); but declined our invitation to join us for lunch. She preferred lunching with her fiancé. Imagine that!
