Wow, that looks hairy! I rode a Segway back in 2009 (http://www.savory.de/blog_aug_09.htm#20090824) but found it difficult getting on or off on the steeper hills around here. But if I see one of those, I'll certainly give it a try (or three).

I can't help but laugh at how people look on Segways. And I always think of Bush falling off one.

Stu--Bogie and her Wonderful Spouse took Hunky Husband and me to a museum in New Hampshire in 2004, at which time I tried the Segway; but, it was inside so I did not experience the difficulties that you did. It would be fun to try the Solo Wheel and the price isn't that bad - compared to the price of a Segway, at least. I could be the first kid on our block to have one!

Hattie--I assume that you are writing about Pres Bush; but, I have no idea which one as I had not heard about it. (For the life of me I cannot understand how anyone could fall off!) The Segway did not gain the widespread use that I would have predicted. I rarely see one here in Kansas.

They have Segway tours here for tourists and I am ashamed of my total intolerance and disdain for them. The police used to ride on bicycles, but now they roll around on Segways. The latter have done NOTHING for their waistlines! It was George W. Bush who fell off the Segway. I say get off and WALK!!

ME--Thanks for the elucidation. Mostly, I've seen Segways used by postal carriers - which has to be better for their backs (the postal pouch hangs on the Segway rather than on the postal carrier) if not their waistlines. On the whole, I think that postal carriers around here are much fitter than the general population.

CC: Our local mail carrier in Iowa told me he walked 17 miles a day on his route, and his bag, depending on the season, weighed something like 35 pounds. I defy anyone to do that day in and day out. The GOP are doing their best to eliminate the USPS--it's the biggest union, after all. What a shame.
