For the past couple of weeks, Hunky Husband and I have been watching bird babies - as we do most years. This photo shows the mama turkey and four of her nine chicks scratching about in the debris under the feeders (nectar and peanut) outside our living room window. They are growing rapidly!
The winds that accompanied the tornado a few miles from here on April 14, 2012, blew enough to break the suspension system of the wind chimes on the front porch. I placed the nest (no eggs, yet) of the house finches who had built at the top of the wind chimes, into a basket which I hung in the same place; but, they are not to be lured back.
A few days ago, I found a Carolina wren's nest in one of the plants that is on the front porch. It now has five eggs in it! All is not lost.
Addition of 6/9/2012:
Hunky Husband asked that I add a photo of one of the chicks - away from the background in which they are so well camouflaged. This photo (below) is a bit fuzzy, but at least the chick is in the grass!
